This past weekend was eventful for West Seattle’s Gymnastics team: from a tearful Senior Night to victory at the JV All-Comers Metro League Championships, the team had a lot of fun and the last couple meets marked a great end to the regular high school season.
Senior Night celebrated our nine seniors, some of which had been on the team for all 4 years, and ever since they started, have shaped the rest of the team in spirit. The energy they have brought to the team was thoughtfully commemorated with the heartfelt speeches of underclassmen.
At both meets, many people competed who usually don’t, which made the past weekend more unique and represented the skills of many more members of West Seattle’s team. On Senior Night, a couple seniors even changed their floor music for a sentimental ending to their senior gymnastics season, or simply to dance differently and bring a new light and vibe to their routines.
Last Friday, West Seattle earned second place and saw West Seattle’s freshman floor Faith Ludwig champion successfully compete a brand-new tumbling pass: a front punch step out into a roundoff back tuck, adding even more excitement to an already unforgettable night.
The next day, West Seattle’s JV team took home a win at the All-Comers Metro League Championships, earning many spots on the podium on all 4 events, including Ada Rutman’s 3rd place spot for All-Around.
From victoriously stuck beam routines to the usual razzle-dazzle on floor, the Wildcats earned their triumph at All-Comers through a long season of hard work and dedication.
If you’re interested in watching a West Seattle Gymnastics meet, don’t you fret because there is at least one last meet of the season! Varsity Metros is Friday, February 7th at 5pm in our gym.
