Penny Penguin waddled down the hallways of Animal High School. It was the third quarter of her senior year and her orange webbed feet had slapped down these halls for almost 4 years. “Sit down and be quiet!” Mr. Owl hooted. Penny sat at her desk next to her best friend Wendy Wallaby. The two of them rolled their eyes at their teacher. Wendy passed Penny a note under her desk. She unfolded the message and read “want to skip second period?” Wendy’s mischievous smirk made Penny giggle and bury her beak in her flippers. Once she got her laughter under control, she nodded towards her best friend. This had become a trend for the girls. Leaving school to go get coffee, lunch, or just lay in the warm spring sun. Both of the girls had already gotten into college, so what was the point of going through the rest of the grueling school year? They were passing all their classes, and their parents didn’t seem to care or even notice that their kids were missing almost half of their schooling.
Wendy and Penny met up with their other friend Kendal Kangaroo who was missing a big test to hang out with them. “It doesn’t matter; I can just take it later”, she said, disinterest filling her every word. They all climbed into Penny’s car and disregarded their seatbelts as they sped off. After stopping at their favorite drive through coffee shop and getting drinks from their favorite muskrat barista, the girls started to drive to the beach.
Little did they know, Kendal would never take that test she missed, and Penny and Wendy wouldn’t go to college, or even graduate Animal High. They got into a car crash and none of them survived. Unfinished matcha lattes spilled over their young fur and feathers. Because of senioritis, there will be three animal sized graves dug, and three animal families will be wishing their little girls had stayed in class.
