Like many members of the American public, you may have heard about or witnessed the unprecedented lovers’ spat that President Trump and Elon Musk took to X this past week. Tensions between the two have been escalating since March when Trump began limiting Musk’s power in the Department of Government Efficiency. Their rising hostility bubbled over suddenly, in which several accusations and opinions on legislation were carelessly thrown around. One of these accusations included Musk claiming Trump was on the Epstein Files, a sore topic for the President who counts over 20 sexual misconduct allegations. Since the argument, Musk has thanked Trump for the opportunity in office as his tenure as a full government employee was coming to an end. Trump praised Musk’s work during his time as the head of DOGE, announcing that his performance will always be remembered by the American people. Musk commented a flirty red heart emoji under Trump’s post, further reassuring the country of their somewhat-patched relationship.
Even after the uplifting and passionate reconciliation of the two, many Americans were taken aback at the rather immature and unpresidential display from earlier this week. When asked how they felt about the online disagreement, West Seattle student Franki commented on how unpresidential and “unserious” it proved high-ranking government officials to be. Expressing her disappointment in the behavior of full-grown adults, Franki compared their actions to “something a sixth-grade girl would do”.
Furthering Franki’s claim on the state of the executive office, senior Seth Rutman voiced how the conflict “showed that everything is kind of breaking down, and important problems that need fixing are in the hands of irresponsible people. The political and economic state of the world is in trouble.”
Then, to keep the interviewees on their toes, they were asked what they truly thought the nature of Trump and Musk’s relationship to be. In response to an inquiry on whether they believed Trump and Musk were dating, Franki responded with an unflinching “Yes. Definitely.”, as Seth confidently replied, “I’ve never been more convinced of anything in my life.”
