Hello, and welcome back to Wednesdays with Nevaeh, where I’m going to talk about the this week so far at West Seattle. Chaotic, drippy, and frankly unforgiving, it was an interesting one.
Surprise Days Off… Because Why Not?
Starting off rough, Monday was long, painful, and filled with the usual assignments and existential dread. Then—Tuesday off. Veterans Day! Don’t get me wrong, it’s important people served and sacrificed; we should all be thankful, and it’s valuable for people to take time off to honor that. Yet, Monday felt like a punishment coming to school for one singular day, breaking up what could have been an extended weekend of freedom and fun. Tuesday was restful, and maybe well-deserved after the latest week of never-ending tests.
Then, Wednesday hits us all like, “Surprise! You’re back in the chaos.” I swear, the universe is just messing with us at this point.
Football Fever at West High
At West Seattle High, the halls are buzzing—no, not literally buzzing, but the energy is undeniable. Football season is on its final stretch, and everyone suddenly knows each play, player, and referee decision like it’s life or death. With how well West Seattle’s football team is doing, it seems like the whole school is feeding off that exciting energy, and we’re loving it. Considering the stressful end of the quarter, it’s nice to have a distraction and something to look forward to.
The Wednesday Downpour
Next, it wouldn’t have been a full week’s analysis if we didn’t discuss the extremely bipolar weather. Last Wednesday, West Seattle delivered a classic rainstorm: heavy showers, gusty wind, and umbrellas flipped inside out. Hallways became a maze of puddles, and somehow everyone managed to navigate their way to class without completely soaking their shoes. Then, on the other hand, Sunday was beautifully golden and not even that cold. With the swinging of the weather pendulum going so far to either side of sunny or stormy, it’s hard to know how to feel.
Freshmen Elections: Eager, Honest, And Slightly Hilarious
Meanwhile, the freshmen elections were… something else. These 9th graders came into the ASB race full of ambition, posters, speeches, and enough energy to power a small city. “I want to improve school lunches!”, they say. “Weekly spirit days should be mandatory!”
I mean, bless their hearts—they’re cute, ambitious, and slightly terrifying in their optimism. However, it may feel a little exhausting to hear more empty promises in high school politics.
Watching them take it so seriously felt oddly humbling yet motivating. As much skepticism as I may carry for cliche vending machine and single lunch promotion, maybe we should all aspire towards the level of positivity and ambition the freshies contain.
Classrooms, Chaos, and Everything in Between
Back in class, life goes on, of course. Teachers assign homework like it’s a competitive sport, and somehow, despite holidays, football hype, elections, and puddle navigation, the workload remains relentless. It’s like the universe saying, “You think you can rest? Ha! Think again.” And yet, despite it all, we trudge on. We learn, we complain, we occasionally participate, and somehow, we survive.
Hallway Life: Loud, Messy, and Slightly Absurd
Hallways are as chaotic as ever. Lockers slam, shoes squeak, and people talk a little too loudly about the strangest things. Meanwhile, I’m just trying not to step in a puddle that’s clearly plotting against me. Even in this mess, there’s something oddly comforting about the palpable energy. Students are balancing classes, sports, clubs, and social lives, and somehow it all works—or at least doesn’t collapse entirely. That counts as a win in my book.
Takeaways: Survive, Laugh, Repeat
So, Wildcats, if you’re still confused by the Monday/Tuesday holiday shuffle, slipping through puddles, cheering for football victories, or laughing at freshmen who think weekly spirit days are revolutionary—I hope each Wednesday will be better than the last. Life here is messy, loud, occasionally wet, and full of people who will remind you that chaos is sometimes exactly what makes school memorable.
Anyway, that’s my ramble of the week. See you next Wednesday—with hopefully less water in the hallways, slightly fewer unsolicited opinions, and no midweek holidays.
